Wow, it's been a while since I've posted anything.
I was reading the Times and found a small article about bicycle and pedestrians sharing the road and I got to thinking about how I feel when I'm on the road and there is a bicyclist in the middle of my lane doing all of five miles an hour in a 35 zone and my blood begins to boil.
Pedestrians have sidewalks and they avoid those roads that are unsafe. Not to mention, when they are on a road without sidewalks, they tend to walk as far off the road as they can. Bicyclists on the other hand feel they have the same rights as a motor vehicle. This is so far from the truth. You see, I pay car tabs to maintain the roads I use. You as a cyclist are a guest on a road you are not paying to use. Sure, you may have a car and when you are in the car, feel free to drive but until your bike tabs cost as much as my car tabs, keep your toys up on the sidewalk!
I, like most others, leave the house in time to get where we are going based on what we know about the route we take. We aren't out for a leisure drive. We are trying to get somewhere and we cannot leave the house 20 minutes early because we MIGHT get stuck behind you. We assume that the speed limit applies and we can travel that speed. We plan on that when we plan our trip. Most side streets don't have accidents or traffic jams so we don't usually account for it.
So here's my solution, PAY UP! Register your bike, pay a fee and use that money to put in bike lanes. Pedestrians have sidewalks, cars have roads, buy your own bike lanes and stay off my roads. If you can't do this, then stop bitching when I get a little to close to you with my truck. Get a life and stop crying because I want to get where I'm going without traveling slower than friggin pond water. If you don't like my driving, do what the pedestrians do and stay off the busy roads. Stay out of my lane. Get your toys up on the sidewalk with the rest of the children and you may live longer.
